I am now in my 30’s so come from the era of Excitebike, Radracer and Cobra Triangle. Old School 2 makes a great job bringing back the memories I have of those games and turns out to be a solid 2D racer with over 60 gravity defying, ground morphing levels. But underneath the hood of the game is a great platformer and for the price, you will have hours and hours of fun.

There are four aspects to Old School Racer 2 which will keep you coming back for more. Firstly you have the time trials on each level where the aim is to get gold or even platinum and I know it sounds counter intuitive but I would worry about those medals last.
Secondly you have an action platformer which will have you collecting 3 tokens per level.
Thirdly win cup tournaments to unlock new vehicles ( my favourite being the purple quad bike) and finally you can unlock upgrades by beating the track in a certain time. A few examples of the upgrades being faster acceleration and boost.

This is all done my navigating the huge map and trailing through 8 worlds containing different terrains and seasons, the swamp levels my own personal highlight. They are the most challenging but the most fun especially one section where you have to balance on top of the rock as it is rolling. After a few frustrating moments I managed to master the art of rolling.

I love the soundtrack to the game, being a huge rock music fan I was happy to hear the sounds of distorted guitars and drums blasting in the back ground, also the graphics are smooth especially the transition of the morphing world around you. The rag doll mechanics are a humorous addition to the game, making it entertaining when you crash and will sometimes have you flying through the air.

A solid retro racer with enough unlockables and achievements to keep you engaged for hours. Very challenging in parts and prepare to give your analog stick a bashing. With the collection of tokens, Old School Racer 2 has all the classic ingredients to make a great platformer and you will want to go off exploring the level rather than racing towards the finish line.
Now, I must get back to unlocking the rest of those vehicles.

Gameplay 4/5
Graphics 4/5
Sound 5/5
Value for money 5/5

A solid physics based platform-racer.
Tons of replay value.
