[News] Pre-orders are open for LEGO Super Mario Adventures

Written by Abbi Smith

Clear a space on your shelf: The LEGO Group and Nintendo announced that pre-orders for the LEGO Super Mario Collection are now open! Featuring a starter course and a pair of expansion sets, the first wave of this new product line is looking to be a gem in the physical play world. Officially titled “LEGO Super Mario Adventures,” the new series features an interactive LEGO Mario figure that collects coins on a built-in LCD screen as you play through the real-life levels you’ve built.

While the Starter Course will be necessary to make use of expansion sets, it also includes seven blocks that are exclusive to this specific set. The Starter Course is the only one currently available for pre-order, but all three sets will be available on August 1st, 2020.

“Super Mario has continued to appear, always in a form adapted to the current hardware of the time. I am thankful that … we are able to bring him into the world with a new, physical type of Mario play. It’s very exciting to think of LEGO Mario becoming a real friend to children and to picture them playing in their very own Mario world that they imagined themselves.”

Takashi Tezuka, Executive Officer and Game Producer of Nintendo Co., Ltd

Designed for ages 6+, this new collection allows kids to build custom levels and battle with the likes of Goombas and Bowser Jr. Collecting virtual coins between the Start pipe and the End pole has never been more involved!

Along with the Starter Course, which is retailing at £49.99/€59.99/$59.99, you may want to save up for the two upcoming expansions when they roll out for pre-order: the Piranha Plant Power Slide expansion set, and the much larger Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle expansion set.

The Pirhana Plant Power Slide and Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle (pictured above) aren’t available for pre-order just yet, but you need the Starter Course to enjoy them, anyway.

All of the sets will be completely modular, so you can swap them about as you please, and there’s a free app in the works to support the collection. The app will contain score tracking, digital building instructions with handy zoom and rotate controls, creative design suggestions, and even a safe forum where ideas and levels can be shared with friends!

We can certainly picture Nintendads and their little Nintendudes enjoying this experience together – but will you be picking it up? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
