For those who missed Nintendo announcing this game (or just plain forgot like I did) Mario Kart Tour is the latest game in the Mario Kart series. The twist this time, as seen in the advertisement, is that its going to be for the iPhone App Store & Google Play. This means a few things, the game won’t look, or run as good as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it just can’t. It also means micro-transactions.
While we don’t know the full extent to the micro-transactions, and even when judging from past Nintendo apps, such as Mario Run & Dr. Mario, it’s still hard to tell. On the one hand, there’s been reports saying Nintendo wants to tone down Micro-transactions in order to not seem greedy (source: https://kotaku.com/nintendo-is-reportedly-toning-down-micro-transactions-i-1833100622) but on the other hand, Dr. Mario World was criticized for it’s micro-transactions (source: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/dr-mario-world-criticized-microtransactions-as-mobile-game-spending-soars-1223721). All that’s known for sure is that there will absolutely be some form of micro-transactions, as they’ve been confirmed to be in the game, but how badly, we just have to wait and see.
New Info, New Tracks
On a much more positive note, the tracks are awesome. In the new trailers, we can see that there will be tracks based on major cities, such as Paris, France while having classic Mario Kart stages such as everyone’s favorite Rainbow Road. They seem just as well made as in the console games, showing secrets to get through laps faster. There will also be costumes (Chef Shy Guy is my favorite) and new karts. Oh, and Diddy Kong is back from his hiatus since Mario Kart Wii, which is clearly the best news so far.
One Last Thing
Mario Kart Tour needs a Nintendo Account. If you have a Nintendo Account already, great, if you don’t, its okay, they’re free and easy to make. A Nintendo Account also allows you to purchase games off of the Nintendo Switch E-Shop, so they’re very useful for Nintendo fans. You can pre-register today now via the App Store and Google Play Store. It’s free to download, and will officially come out September 25th of 2019.
